Screen printing at home
If you want to do some good quality screen printing at home, you don’t have to spend a fortune on expensive equipment. It is not even necessary to have a printing studio, some simple solutions to do at home, while not sacrificing quality. Here are some things you will need to start the process at home. The first thing to consider is what image and or picture you want to use for your first project. There are several ways to do this. When you have decided on what image you want to use, have it transferred to a transparency sheet. That is a clear light plastic or cellophane sheet that some teachers still use in school to show a diagram to students. Clear packaging for toys will also work for this project. To start things off, until you are comfortable with the process, it’s best to use just one color. When you are ready to transfer the image onto the surface you will be using, make sure it is as dark as possible, with no light seeping through. Start out with something big and bold, and then after you are comfortable, you can start experimenting with more intricate designs.
You will need a completely flat picture frame. You will need a piece of glass that is smaller than the size of the frame you are using. An old gauzy type of curtain, the color is not important, but it should be in decent shape, and tightly woven. A piece of dark fabric you have, larger than the frame you are using, to lay the frame on. You will need a photosensitive goo, that you can find at the art store. Old cereal boxes, masking tape, paper for inside of shirts, if that’s what you’re using to print on. A garden hose, an old shirt to wear, for more info you can watch a Youtube video to guide you along.
